About Me as a Human…

When I am not in therapy-land, you can find me:
When I am not in therapy-land, you can find me on the farm, spending time with family and friends around a fire. I’m always learning something new, whether it’s through online courses, reading, or attending seminars. I also enjoy bush camping, quading, and hunting, which allow me to unwind and recharge in nature.

For Self Care:
For my self-care, you can find me puttering around the farm. The connection to nature, working with animals, and the physical activity of farm life help me recharge and maintain a healthy work-life balance. It's a peaceful and grounding environment that allows me to clear my mind and refocus, which ultimately enhances my work with clients.

For Fun:
I love spending time outdoors, particularly with farm animals, as it provides a sense of peace and connection. I also enjoy hunting and bush camping, which allow me to escape from everyday stressors and reconnect with nature. When I'm not outside, I indulge in diamond art, a relaxing and meditative hobby that allows me to express creativity and patience.

For Growth:
I dedicate time to continuous learning through reading, whether it’s about leadership, psychology, or self-development, to ensure I’m always evolving both personally and professionally. I am also preparing for my EPPP exam, refreshing my skills in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and the Shift protocol, and looking forward to upcoming training in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART).

Something unique about me is:
One unique aspect of my background is the diverse range of real-world experiences that have shaped my approach as a psychologist. I have worked in business development, direct sales, and as a hobby farmer while balancing being a stay-at-home mom and a full-time student. These life experiences have enhanced my ability to understand and empathize with individuals from all walks of life.

What are your academic credentials?

I earned my Masters in Counselling Psychology from City University of Seattle and completed my Bachelor of Arts with a major in Psychology at Athabasca University.

I am a member of the Psychological Association of Alberta (PAA), Canadian Counselling and Psychological Association (CCPA), Canadian Psychological Association (CPA), College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) and Alberta Society for the Promotion of Sexual Health (ASPSH).

Before I was in the mental health field, I was doing / working in / volunteering at:

Before entering the mental health field, I was involved in business development, direct sales, and worked as a hobby farmer. I also spent years managing a busy home while studying full-time.

The most impactful thing about my experience here was:
During this time, I developed strong skills in entrepreneurship, customer relations, and time management, all of which helped me cultivate resilience and adaptability.

Three things I am currently obsessed with and why:

  1. Betty Boop – I love Betty Boop because she was a groundbreaking figure in early animation and pop culture. She represents a unique blend of playful innocence and bold femininity, which resonates with me both artistically and emotionally.
  2. Diamond Art – This hobby allows me to engage in a methodical, meditative process that is both creative and stress-relieving. The intricate designs and mindful focus offer a calming and rewarding escape from everyday stressors.
  3. Sexual Health Awareness – I am passionate about educating and advocating for sexual health and wellness. Open conversations about sexual well-being reduce stigma and empower individuals to make informed choices about their bodies and relationships.

The most helpful book I have read is:

Secrets of the Millionaire Mind: Mastering the Inner Game of Wealth
My biggest takeaway from it was:
This book helped me reshape my approach to personal and professional growth. It emphasizes the importance of mindset and the psychology of success, which applies to all areas of life, not just financial success.

The most interesting article or book I have read is:

The Complete Kama Sutra by Alain Daniélou
Because:
Daniélou’s translation reveals that the Kama Sutra is more than just a book about intimacy—it’s a guide to living a balanced, meaningful life. It delves into love, relationships, personal growth, and emotional connection. It’s a fascinating exploration of human connection on a deeper level.

Specialty and Specific Interest Areas:

Client Populations:

I have a special interest in working with midlife women because I understand the unique challenges they face, including pelvic floor health, intimacy, life transitions, and sexual wellness. I also work with couples, helping them navigate relationship challenges and fostering deeper communication and intimacy.

Clinical Concern:

I have a strong clinical interest in working with individuals who are struggling with emotional regulation, trauma recovery, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and sexual health concerns. I also specialize in intimacy challenges, relationship issues, and self-esteem concerns.

Non-Clinical Concern:

Beyond clinical concerns, I focus on helping individuals navigate major life transitions, such as career shifts, relationship changes, and personal growth. My work is centred on empowering clients to build self-esteem, enhance communication skills, and develop emotional resilience.

Some of the clinical orientations, methods, and theories I integrate with ShiftGrit’s therapy protocol:

  1. Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) – A specialized form of CBT that incorporates mindfulness and acceptance strategies. It’s particularly useful for individuals struggling with emotional regulation, trauma, or self-destructive behaviours.
  2. Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) – A short-term, goal-oriented approach that emphasizes solutions rather than focusing on past challenges.
  3. Psychodynamic Therapy – Explores unconscious patterns and emotional conflicts that stem from early life experiences, helping clients make more conscious and informed decisions.
  4. Gottman Method & Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for Couples – Used to help couples improve communication, increase emotional intimacy, and resolve conflicts.

People like working with me because:

Clients enjoy working with me because they feel truly heard, supported, and empowered to take charge of their lives and emotional well-being. My approach is straightforward and grounded in real conversations, focusing on practical solutions rather than just theory. I provide a safe, non-judgmental environment where clients can openly explore their challenges while equipping them with actionable tools and strategies for lasting change. By emphasizing collaboration, goal-setting, and resilience, I help clients achieve meaningful improvements in both their emotional health and relationships, all while maintaining an authentic, down-to-earth vibe.
