What do you do at Shift?
As a Registered Provisional Psychologist, I specialize in using the Shift Therapy Program to support women as they navigate their unique challenges and limitations. These challenges may include low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, and stress management related to various life transitions—such as fertility issues, pregnancy, motherhood, postpartum depression, job changes, relationship dynamics, and single parenting.
In addition to my work with women, I find fulfillment in helping men address their mental health needs. I believe that everyone deserves support and guidance, regardless of their gender or life circumstances. I aim to create a safe and empathetic space for all individuals to explore their feelings and develop coping strategies that promote healing and resilience.
I am trained in various modalities, such as Cognitive Behavioural (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) Eye-movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Mindfulness-Based (MBCT), Trauma-informed therapy (TBT), Acceptance & Commitment (ACT), Attachment-based, Motivational Interviewing, Multicultural counselling and working towards a healthy relationship with self and others.
What are your academic credentials?
I am currently pursuing my Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology, complemented by extensive training and certifications in various areas, including trauma, postpartum depression, motherhood, and fertility issues. I have also received specialized training in Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and mediation practices.
Through this journey, I believe in the limitless potential for personal growth and self-discovery. The inspiration I have gained has profoundly shaped my path and fueled my passion for helping others. Guided by a sense of spiritual connection—whether referred to as God, the Universe, or Source—I strive to be fully present and engaged in the therapeutic process, fostering a supportive environment for my clients.
Why did you decide to become a therapist?
My journey to becoming a therapist began during my undergraduate studies, where I discovered my passion for psychology through various coursework. This interest deepened as I worked with women affected by domestic violence, which profoundly influenced my commitment to the field.
Upon completing my undergraduate degree, I pursued a Master of Arts in Psychology to further enhance my knowledge and skills. During this time, I participated in several research studies in collaboration with Alberta Health Services and the University of Calgary, experiences that I found both enriching and fulfilling.
To this day, I remain dedicated to continuous learning in various areas of research and psychology, as this ongoing education provides a strong foundation for my practice and informs my approach to therapy.
What do you bring to your therapy sessions, and what are some goals?
In my therapy sessions, I aim to empower individuals to feel unburdened and to cultivate a more meaningful life filled with purpose. My primary goal is to help clients develop a sense of faith in themselves and to embrace the ease and flow of life. I encourage them to enhance their beliefs in their potential and the limitless possibilities available to them.
I strive to guide clients toward a life characterized by joy and fulfillment, helping them recognize that setbacks and challenges are growth opportunities, ultimately bringing them closer to their goals and desires. I aspire to facilitate their journey toward becoming the best version of themselves while alleviating tension and stress.
I utilize the Shift protocol as a key component of my therapeutic approach, believing it adds significant value to the transformative process, making the journey as meaningful for others as it has been for me.
Who do you work with?
I work with adolescents (16+) and adults of all backgrounds to explore and improve their quality of life.
Why are you passionate about what you do?
I am deeply passionate about supporting individuals across all backgrounds, including mothers, women, men, and everyone in between. I believe that everyone deserves a safe space to express their unique challenges and experiences.
In particular, I feel that mothers often face significant pressures and may require additional support. It is incredibly rewarding for me to assist women in enhancing their self-awareness and pursuing their goals, regardless of how big or small they may seem.
I also recognize that men face their own set of challenges, and I am committed to helping them navigate these issues as well. I aim to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels heard and valued.
I encourage all my clients to cultivate gratitude for what they have, reminding them of the blessings life offers. By recognizing their strengths and understanding their inherent power, they find the motivation to overcome obstacles and pursue their aspirations. My commitment to this work stems from a desire to empower individuals and foster resilience in their journeys, ultimately helping them lead more fulfilling lives.
What do you do in your spare time?
In my spare time, I enjoy reading books and listening to podcasts focused on personal growth and development. I have a passion for travel and relish the opportunity to explore the diverse experiences our world has to offer. One of my favourite pastimes is sitting on the beach, where I find tranquillity in people-watching by the ocean.
As a coffee enthusiast, I also appreciate the ambiance of a coffee shop, where I can savour a latte while reflecting on my day and contemplating future aspirations.
I dedicate quality time to my husband and our two children, whom I consider miracle babies. The memories of their births are particularly cherished, and I find great joy in participating in their activities and supporting their aspirations.
What is a skill that you are currently working on?
I am currently focused on expanding my knowledge and continually learning about the culture of ShiftGrit and the latest protocols that enhance client care. I am grateful to be part of a strong team and to collaborate with other psychologists in our shared mission to help clients overcome their challenges.
I have a keen interest in love and relationships, particularly commitment and relationship dynamics, as I believe understanding these aspects is crucial for effective therapeutic practice. Additionally, I am pursuing further trauma training to deepen my expertise in this critical area.
Being in a Doctorate program is instrumental in my professional development, allowing me to refine my skills and apply new knowledge in my work with clients. I am committed to ongoing growth to provide the best possible support to those I serve.
I recently published my first book, "Who am I in the Universe?" which aligns well with the Shift Therapy Program. This inspirational affirmation book reminds people to use their powerful thoughts to reprogram their subconscious mind. As new thoughts are born creating change, affirmations provide people with inner peace and unwavering faith to never stop believing in themselves. My book is available to the public on Amazon.ca/.com, Chapters and Book Baby.
What motivates or inspires you?
I find immense inspiration in listening to motivational speakers and witnessing their unwavering determination to empower others to believe in themselves and live their best lives. Their passion ignites my creativity and encourages me to embrace the possibility that my own contributions can be recognized and valued, guiding me toward a path of self-trust and success.
Deep down, I have always known that my purpose in life is to help others. This calling resonates through the compassion I offer the world, expecting nothing in return. My love for others is expressed through my words and my approach to every situation, entering each with an open heart.
While I have often felt fulfillment from within, I’ve come to understand that external validation is not essential. What truly matters is self-awareness and affirming one’s own truth. You don’t need others to tell you that you are beautiful, kind, or compassionate—though it’s always nice to hear. The real power lies in knowing and believing these qualities within yourself.
What are your additional areas of clinical interest?
I have a strong clinical interest in dating and relationships, particularly as they relate to self-esteem and personal fulfillment. I am passionate about working with adult women and mothers who are navigating challenges such as low self-esteem, stress, anxiety, and depression.
In addition, I enjoy supporting new college graduates as they transition into adulthood, helping them navigate the complexities of their new roles and responsibilities while building confidence in their identities.
I am also open to working with individuals of any culture, background, or gender. I understand that each person faces unique challenges and societal pressures, and I strive to create a safe and supportive environment for open dialogue and exploration.
By addressing these diverse areas, I aim to empower individuals to develop healthy relationships, improve self-worth, and cultivate emotional resilience. My goal is to provide tailored support that meets the specific needs of each client, helping them thrive in their personal and professional lives.
Do you have any lived or personal experiences that can be utilized in therapy with you?
Yes, I bring a wealth of personal experience to my therapeutic practice. Having faced traumatic experiences from childhood and navigating various challenges related to childbirth, I have developed a deep understanding of the complexities surrounding emotional well-being and motherhood.
These experiences not only inform my empathetic approach but also allow me to connect with clients on a deeper level. I believe that my journey enhances my ability to support others facing their own struggles, fostering an environment where they can feel understood and empowered to heal and grow.
