ShiftGrit Core Method™
Our structured framework for breaking outdated identity patterns.
Learn more about ShiftGrit Core Method™Infertility is one of the most isolating experiences in adult life — and one of the least visible. For Calgary clients navigating IVF cycles, IUI, donor decisions, surrogacy, miscarriage recovery, or the long uncertainty of unexplained infertility, the emotional load shows up in waves: hope tracking with cycle days, grief activated by other people’s news, anger that nobody quite understands the timeline you’re living on.
Many clients we see have already worked with fertility clinics, medical teams, and sometimes general counsellors. The medical side gets capable attention; the emotional side often defaults to “be strong” or “stay positive.” What’s missing is structured psychological support for the belief patterns infertility activates: usually some combination of “I Am A Failure,” “It’s My Fault,” or “I Am Defective” — patterns the body believes long before the mind agrees.
Our clinicians work within the Identity-Level Therapy orientation, applying the ShiftGrit Core Method™ — a structured clinical system that targets those belief patterns directly. We coordinate with your fertility team, OB, and family doctor when that’s part of the picture. The work is pacing-sensitive; we don’t push for resolution on a timeline that doesn’t match your own. You’ll meet at our Mount Royal studio (815 17 Avenue SW), and individual or couples-format sessions are both available.
Virtual sessions across Alberta via Jane online booking — particularly useful through active treatment cycles when commuting adds load. Same-week appointments typically open.
Identity-Level Therapy targets the belief patterns and emotional loops driving automatic reactions—not just the surface symptoms. By working at the identity layer, clients shift how they interpret safety, regulate threat, and relate to themselves and others. The result: reconditioning at the root of shame, self-sabotage, reactivity, and overwhelm.
It’s organized around three pillars:

Infertility counselling is a specialized form of therapy designed to support individuals and couples experiencing infertility. It helps address the emotional and psychological challenges associated with infertility, including stress, anxiety, depression, and relationship issues.
Infertility therapy can provide emotional support, coping strategies, and guidance through the often challenging and emotional journey of infertility. It can help improve mental health, strengthen relationships, and enhance your overall well-being during fertility treatments.
Infertility counselling can help you and your partner communicate more effectively, manage stress and anxiety, process feelings of grief and loss, and develop healthy coping mechanisms. It can also provide a safe space to explore your emotions and make informed decisions about your fertility journey.
In your first session, the therapist will get to know you and your unique situation. This may include discussing your medical history, emotional experiences, and specific concerns related to infertility. Together, you will create a tailored plan to address your needs and goals.
Yes, all infertility counselling sessions are confidential. Your privacy is of utmost importance, and all information shared during therapy will be kept strictly confidential.
The frequency of counselling sessions depends on your individual needs and preferences. Some people may benefit from weekly sessions, while others may find bi-weekly or monthly sessions sufficient. Your therapist will work with you to determine the best schedule.
Yes, infertility counselling can help manage the stress and emotional strain of fertility treatments. Therapists can provide techniques for relaxation, stress reduction, and emotional regulation, helping you to cope better with the ups and downs of the treatment process.
While it can be beneficial for both partners to attend counselling, individual therapy can also be very effective. If your partner is not interested, you can still benefit from counselling by addressing your own emotional needs and learning strategies to cope with the challenges of infertility.
Finding the right infertility therapist involves considering factors such as their experience, qualifications, and approach to therapy. Look for a licensed therapist who specializes in infertility and has positive reviews or testimonials from past clients. You can also schedule a consultation to see if they are a good fit for you.
Insurance coverage for infertility counselling varies. It’s important to check with your insurance provider to understand what services are covered under your plan. Some therapists may also offer sliding scale fees or payment plans to make counselling more accessible.
Life in Calgary moves fast—tight timelines, high expectations, and constant comparison. These guides explain why emotional patterns often feel louder here, how identity-level beliefs get triggered in high-demand environments, and what structured, evidence-informed therapy can actually change.
