More About Me

Professional Details

Hi, I'm Jas. I'm a Registered Provisional Psychologist with a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology, and I work with adolescents (14+) and adults who are tired of feeling stuck.

You might find yourself caught in anxiety that won't quiet down, OCD that keeps pulling you back into the same rituals or doubts, trauma that still influences how you see yourself, depression that has taken the joy out of life, or addiction that feels like a cycle you can't escape. Maybe you've spent years wondering why the same struggles keep showing up despite your best efforts to change.

I don't believe people are broken. I believe our minds are incredibly good at adapting. Many of the thoughts, emotions, and behaviours that create suffering today were once ways of surviving difficult experiences. The problem is that what protected us in the past can begin to limit us in the present.

What excites me most about therapy is helping people understand those patterns. Instead of asking, "What's wrong with you?" I like to ask, "What happened, and what has your mind learned because of it?" When we can answer that question together, change starts to feel less like fighting yourself and more like understanding yourself.

Alongside concerns like anxiety, OCD, trauma, depression, addiction, and emotional regulation, I also help people navigate relationship challenges, grief, stress, identity, recovery, and building a stronger sense of self. My style is warm, curious, collaborative, and straightforward. I'll meet you with compassion, but I also won't hesitate to ask the deeper questions or gently challenge the patterns that are keeping you stuck.

I believe therapy should leave you with more than insight. It should help you experience real, lasting change. My goal isn't simply to help you feel better for an hour each week. It's to help you understand yourself differently, relate to yourself with more compassion, and build a life that feels more authentic, connected, and meaningful.

Training & Clinical Foundation

The training I've completed has shaped the way I think about people. During my master's program, I learned the importance of providing trauma-informed and culturally responsive care, which reminded me that no two people experience the world in the same way. Every client brings a different story, different relationships, different values, and different experiences into the room. I never want someone to feel like they're being fit into a box or judged based on a diagnosis. Instead, I want to understand what life has been like for them and how those experiences have shaped who they are today.

My training in the ShiftGrit Core Method™ has added another layer to that understanding. It has strengthened my ability to look beyond the surface of a problem and become curious about the patterns underneath it. Rather than asking, "How do we get rid of this symptom?" I'm often asking, "What is this symptom trying to protect you from?" I find that when people understand why their minds developed certain ways of coping, they often become less critical of themselves and more hopeful that change is possible.

Bringing these approaches together allows me to offer therapy that is compassionate, practical, and deeply collaborative. My goal isn't to tell clients who they are or what they should do. It's to help them better understand themselves, recognize the strengths they've developed along the way, and create lasting change that feels authentic to the life they want to live.

Recovery Community Experience

One of the unique experiences I bring is my involvement in the recovery community over the past eight years. Through serving as a sponsor, supporting men through the 12-step process, and speaking on recovery panels, I have had the opportunity to walk alongside many individuals as they navigate addiction, change, accountability, and rebuilding their lives.

This experience has given me a deeper understanding of the challenges many clients face when they are trying to make meaningful changes - including shame, self-worth struggles, fear, uncertainty, and learning how to build a life that feels aligned with who they want to become. It allows me to meet clients with genuine empathy, reduce the sense of isolation that often comes with these struggles, and support them in creating sustainable change.

I bring this perspective together with my clinical training and professional experience in addictions, trauma-informed care, and mental health to provide care that is compassionate, grounded, and focused on helping clients move forward.

ShiftGrit Core Method™ & Clinical Approach

The ShiftGrit Core Method™ has influenced the way I understand people and the way I approach therapy. I see change as more than simply trying to stop a behaviour or manage a symptom - it often begins with understanding the experiences, beliefs, and protective patterns that shaped how someone learned to navigate the world. In therapy, I use the method to help clients slow down and become curious about the patterns that keep them feeling stuck, while creating space to understand where those patterns came from and what purpose they once served.

What I appreciate most about this approach is that it allows clients to move away from seeing themselves as "the problem" and toward recognizing that their struggles often developed as understandable responses to their life experiences. I integrate the ShiftGrit Core Method™ with trauma-informed care, culturally responsive practice, attachment-based perspectives, cognitive behavioural strategies, and my experience working with addiction and recovery. This allows me to meet clients where they are, honour their individual stories, and help them develop a deeper understanding of themselves while building the skills and confidence to create the life they want.

Personal Background & Story

Before becoming a therapist

Before becoming a therapist, I worked in hospitality, where I learned the importance of making people feel seen, welcomed, and valued. I spent years connecting with people from many different backgrounds and noticed how much a genuine interaction could impact someone's experience. That environment taught me the importance of listening, adapting, and creating a sense of trust with people quickly. Those skills continue to influence the way I work with clients today by helping me create a space where people feel comfortable showing up as themselves.

A past role that shapes my therapy today...

My background in hospitality continues to shape the way I approach therapy today. Working with people in that setting taught me that everyone has a story, and that what we see on the surface is often only a small part of what someone is carrying. I learned the value of patience, empathy, and meeting people where they are. As a therapist, I carry those lessons forward by prioritizing genuine connection and creating an environment where clients feel respected, understood, and supported as they navigate their own experiences.

What inspired me to enter the field...

What inspired me to enter the field of therapy was experiencing firsthand that meaningful change is possible, even during times when life can feel overwhelming or uncertain. Through my own journey of growth and transformation, I discovered a sense of hope and possibility that I once did not believe was available to me. That experience created a desire to help others find their own path forward and offer the same sense of support, understanding, and encouragement that helped me recognize change was possible. I became passionate about helping people better understand themselves, move through the barriers that keep them feeling stuck, and create a life that feels more aligned with who they want to become.

Personality & Connection

When I'm not in therapy land...

When I'm not in therapy land, I enjoy spending time with the people in my life, exploring new restaurants, watching movies, and finding new experiences around the city. I enjoy getting out and experiencing what Edmonton has to offer, whether that's spending a day at Heritage Days, walking through the Art Walk, checking out local events, or finding a new place to explore. I appreciate a good balance between creating new memories and enjoying quieter moments that allow me to recharge.

For fun, I...

For fun, I enjoy following the NFL, going to concerts, and playing board games. I love the excitement of football season, the energy of live music, and the laughs that come from a little friendly competition. Whether it's cheering on a team, discovering a new artist, or spending an evening with friends, I enjoy the experiences that bring people together.

A favorite ritual or routine is...

One of my favourite routines is taking my dog Bella for walks. It's a simple part of my day that gives me a chance to slow down, get outside, and enjoy a little quiet time away from the busyness of life. I also enjoy listening to podcasts and reading books as ways to unwind, explore new ideas, and keep learning outside of my professional work.

Something surprising about me is...

Something surprising about me is that I only discovered my love for folk music a few years ago, and it has quickly become one of my favourite parts of summer. I now volunteer with the Edmonton Folk Music Festival, which has become a highlight of my year. I love the atmosphere, the community, and the experience of being surrounded by live music. It's an unexpected passion that I never would have predicted, but now I look forward to it every year.

Therapy Style & Client Experience

People like working with me because...

People often tell me they feel comfortable opening up to me surprisingly quickly. I genuinely care about understanding who you are before trying to solve the problem you're facing. I bring warmth, curiosity, and honesty into every session, but I'm also willing to ask the difficult questions when I think they'll help you grow. My goal is to create a space where you feel accepted exactly as you are while also helping you make meaningful changes. Clients often leave feeling understood, challenged in a supportive way, and hopeful that lasting change is possible.

What clients can expect in a first session...

Our first session isn't about putting you under a microscope - it's about getting to know you. We'll talk about what's bringing you in, what's been getting in the way, and what you hope life will look like if therapy is successful. I'll ask thoughtful questions to understand the deeper patterns beneath your struggles, while making sure you feel heard and never rushed. Many clients tell me they leave with a better understanding of themselves and, for the first time in a while, a genuine sense of hope.

A transformation I love to witness...

The transformation I love seeing most is when someone stops believing they're broken. So many people come to therapy carrying shame, self-doubt, or the feeling that they'll never change. As we begin to understand where those beliefs came from and replace them with healthier ones, they often start trusting themselves, setting healthier boundaries, improving relationships, and living in a way that feels authentic instead of driven by fear. Watching someone rediscover confidence and realize they're capable of creating a different future is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.

Passions, Inspirations & Favourites

An unexpected source of inspiration in my life is...

One of the biggest sources of inspiration in my life has been recovery. It taught me that people are far more resilient than they often believe and that meaningful change is possible, even after years of feeling stuck. That experience continues to shape not only how I approach my own life but also how I sit with clients - with hope, curiosity, and the belief that no one is defined by the hardest chapters of their story.

A psychology topic I can't stop exploring is...

I'm fascinated by the beliefs we develop about ourselves early in life and how they quietly influence our emotions, relationships, and decisions years later. I love exploring why our brains hold onto patterns that once protected us, even when they no longer serve us. Helping clients understand those patterns - and seeing the relief that comes when things finally make sense - is one of my favourite parts of being a therapist.

Three things I'm currently obsessed with are...

  • Understanding why people do what they do. Whether I'm reading research, reflecting on therapy sessions, or having conversations with colleagues, I genuinely enjoy exploring the patterns, beliefs, and experiences that shape us.
  • Trying new restaurants and coffee shops around Edmonton. There's something about sharing good food and discovering new places that helps me slow down and connect with the people around me.
  • Getting outside hiking, paddle-boarding, or simply spending time in nature. Getting outdoors helps me recharge, stay present, and reminds me of the importance of creating balance in life.

Clinical Interests & Specialties

I have a special interest in working with individuals who struggle with addiction and depression because I understand how deeply these challenges can affect a person's sense of self, relationships, and hope for the future. My personal and professional experiences have shown me that behind these struggles are often people who have been carrying pain, shame, and experiences that have left them feeling disconnected from themselves and others. I am drawn to these clinical concerns because they can impact many areas of a person's life, and I find it meaningful to support individuals as they gain insight, reconnect with their strengths, and create meaningful change.

My additional areas of expertise include supporting clients experiencing anxiety, trauma, grief, self-esteem challenges, relationship difficulties, life transitions, and identity-related concerns. I also have training in trauma-informed care, culturally competent care, and the ShiftGrit Core Method™, which have enhanced my ability to understand the patterns that influence clients' experiences and provide compassionate, individualized support.

Clinical Methods & Orientations

I integrate the ShiftGrit Core Method™ with a variety of therapeutic approaches, including trauma-informed care, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), attachment-based perspectives, and mindfulness-based practices. The approaches that feel most aligned with me are those that help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and the experiences that have shaped their worldview.

I value approaches that balance insight with practical change, allowing clients to not only understand themselves on a deeper level but also develop new ways of responding to life's challenges. I have created a unique blend by using the ShiftGrit Core Method™ as a foundation for identifying patterns and limiting beliefs, while incorporating trauma-informed and evidence-based approaches to help clients challenge old narratives, build self-awareness, and create meaningful shifts in their lives.

Growth & Professional Development

A professional challenge I overcame...

One of the biggest challenges I have overcome professionally has been learning to trust my own growth while continuing to stay open to feedback and new learning. My experiences have taught me that becoming a better therapist is an ongoing process that requires humility, self-reflection, and a willingness to keep growing. This has helped me become more present with clients and more aware of the importance of bringing authenticity, curiosity, and compassion into the therapeutic relationship.

An area of growth I'm focused on now is...

An area of growth I am focused on is continuing to deepen my understanding of the many ways people heal and create change. I enjoy learning from other clinicians, exploring new perspectives, and reflecting on my own practice so I can continue showing up as the best therapist I can be. I believe growth is a lifelong process, both personally and professionally, and I value staying curious and committed to becoming better at my work.

Free Form

I see therapy as sitting beside someone as they unpack a backpack they have been carrying for years. Some things in that backpack helped them survive, some things no longer serve them, and some things they never should have had to carry alone. Therapy is about understanding what's there, honouring why it was carried, and helping people choose what they want to bring forward.
