Like all Shift Psychologists, Laura is trained in the Shift Protocol, which is the highly effective blending of two well-researched approaches: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Bi-Lateral Stimulation (BLS).

THE BASICS

What is your name/nicknames?

My name is Laura. I don’t have many nicknames (that I will share lol), but my niece has always called me Lala

What do you do at Shift?

I am a Registered Provisional Psychologist

What are your academic credentials?

I have a Masters of Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University, a Bachelors of Physical Education focused on Sports Psychology and Sport Performance from the University of Alberta, and a Diploma in Business Management from MacEwan University.

What is your professional background?

Prior to becoming a provisional psychologist, I was a first responder in law enforcement for 10 years. I was a Corrections Officer, staff trainer, victim communications officer, and detector dog handler during that time.

Did you do any sports growing up?

I competed for 16 years in equestrian show jumping. This gave me the opportunity to travel all over Canada and the USA competing. My highlights were competing (and winning) for team Canada as a junior athlete in an international competition and competing at the Spruce Meadows Masters. This also allowed me the opportunity to coach and work with other competitive athletes for many years.

Do you have any pets?

I have 2 dogs – a 13 year old lab cross rescue named Regis, and an 11 year old chocolate lab (who was my former Drug Detection Dog in Corrections) named Jessie. I also have a 5 year old cat named Jack.

THE RANDOM

What is your favourite food?

Any kind of pasta and cheesecake!

What is a skill you are working on currently?

I am currently working on learning how to cook plant-based meals. It’s been a lot of fun experimenting with new flavours and ingredients!

What do you do in your spare time?

I spend almost all of my spare time with my 2.5 year old son and my animals. I also love to read (you can often find me buried in a great book) and my guilty pleasure is reality TV (think Survivor, Master Chef, and Big Brother lol)

What is your dream car?

I love cute, sporty cars! So currently I would say a Ferrari California (totally practical for Edmonton weather haha)

What is your go-to for a good laugh?

My son, he’s a born comedian lol. Or the TikTok rabbit hole of funny animal videos.
