What is your name?

My name is Rosie wells. Registered Psychologist.

What do you do at Shift?

At Shift I offer therapy for adults, teens, couples and families. I like to get a good sense of assessing what the real issue is that is driving my client. We all distract with those things in life that keep us from feeling and processing what we need to in order to function without anxiety. I provide a safe encouraging place to see my client through their therapy. I am easy going and also bring a sense of humor.

What are your academic credentials?

I received my BA from the University of Victoria and my Masters from Yorkville University and I reside in Alberta. I have training in psychodynamic therapy, EFT for couples and family Systems.

Why did you decide to become a therapist?

I have always been interested in why I reacted to life's challenges and how the mind works. I first became interested in why people laugh and animals don't. I decided to study psychology right after high school. After I got into the work force, my problems crept up and I wanted to know what was wrong with me. Why do I have anxiety and fear I began therapy and came to realize that adverse events in childhood affected the way I reacted to things in adult life. I use psychodynamic and attachment approaches so that I can get to the root of a client's issue so they don't have to spend years in therapy.

What do you bring to your therapy sessions, and what are some goals?

I am easy going and bring a sense of humor while also being able to sit with someone comfortably while they work through their process. My goal is to get to the root of my client's presenting issue and let them see that on the other side that they are important, that they matter, and that they have a gift to offer the world. I believe we are all born with a purpose that is usually realized in childhood, but hardships of life get in the way of us realizing that potential. I help clients learn the past events that hinder them and how they affect their relationships with others. It is my goal that my client sees patterns of behavior that hinder there growth.

Who do you work with? (adults, children over x)

I work with teens, adults, couples and families.

Why are you passionate about what you do?

I am passionate about mental health as I am proof that therapy can provide life changing results. I find seeing people change and prosper very rewarding. I offer a safe therapeutic space for my client to be vulnerable. I am a skilled listener and being receptive is a core part of who I am. I love seeing so many different personalities in my office and how we are so different and yet we share the same struggles in life. I believe we should celebrate our therapy process and be proud of what we have come from and what we have become.

What do you do in your spare time?

In my spare time I paddle board an swim, explore with my dog, socialize with a small group of friends. I love to travel to warm places and I frequently visit my home town of Vancouver so I can shop and hike. I love watching design shows and using the ideas to put to use in my house. I can be found in the garden planting and tending flowers and trees every spare minute in the warmer months. I do enjoy my alone time when I can recharge. I am beginning to think about cross country skiing or snow hiking now I am living in a cold climate.

What is a skill that you are currently working on?

Professionally, I am currently taking training in Emotion Focused Therapy for couples. EMDR and a in depth trauma course, so that I can be more equipped to help others. Personally I am learning yoga which has been amazing with mindfulness which I find challenging. I am also allowing myself to accept my faults which make me unique and accept compliments from others.

What motivates or inspires you?

I am inspired by my clients first and foremost for their bravery and am honored they share their their space with me. I am inspired by those who have been at rock bottom and have persevered to realize their potential. I am motivated by my faith and my inner strength. Seeing clients prosper really motivates me as I am result driven. I am motivated and inspired by my career as it affords me to work with people and not just be in a stagnant place. When clients learn and grow I do too. I always learn about myself through the therapy process and that is big motivation and inspiration.
