What is your name/nickname?

Philip Krause.

What do you do at Shift?

I work as a Registered Provisional Psychologist providing individual therapy for adults and adolescents. I also provide general assessment services for individuals seeking to help them better understand their mental health concerns.

What are your academic credentials?

I hold a BSc in Chemistry and Psychology from the University of Alberta and a MA in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University.

Why did you decide to become a therapist?

I became a therapist to combine my interest and passion for psychology with my desire to connect, work with, and help people from all walks of life.

What do you bring to your therapy sessions, and what are some goals?

I approach clients with lenses pulling from existential and person-centred psychotherapies. In addition to those two, cognitive-behavioural therapy strategies and interventions are also incorporated.

Who do you work with?

I work primarily with adults, adolescents, and elderly populations.

Why are you passionate about what you do?

I am passionate about what I do because there is genuine enjoyment in being able to help and interact with people.

What do you do in your spare time?

When not at work, I enjoy cooking, listening to classical and old music, and enjoying a strong cup of coffee. Elsewhere, I enjoy journalling—especially outside in nature, in the river valley if possible—and, absolutely, reading and studying psychology. I enjoy visiting farmer's markets on the weekends, and watching movies with my partner when studies are not keeping me too busy. Along with these activities, I enjoy playing, and sometimes writing, piano music. Planning adventures and travels, near and afar, with my partner is another fun and enjoyable task.

What is a skill that you are currently working on?

I continually work on building self-awareness through active self-reflection.

What motivates or inspires you?

My clients, their challenges and their journeys.
My therapist, who helped me discover a sense of possibility about what life could be.
My partner, and the fun and exciting adventures we share in.
