Ask A Therapist OnlineCategory: Marriage CounsellingIs Marriage Councelling right for me?
Jaded asked 4 years ago

My wife and I have been married for 14 years. Lately, the communication seems to have taken a turn for the worse. Our schedules are conflicting, so we don’t get to see each other a lot. We have two children which are teenagers and which we both love dearly. How can we recapture that old magic we had or is it gone forever? Are we good candidates for marriage counseling?

Thank you for your question! Many people can benefit from marriage or couples counselling, which tends to focus on developing skills like communication. At Shift, we used to do couples counselling and we noticed that most people know what they want to say and how to say it, but other things get in the way. We highly recommend that both individuals in the couple do their own individual therapy to get to the root of issues, which manifest in different ways in relationships. You can learn more about our approach here. In addition, here are some tips for recapturing the magic. Good luck!
